There seems to be a little confusion lately regarding the proper color for off-road motorcycle boots. I believe that this mix-up is typical of amateurs new to a sport, who confuse details such as ON ROAD and OFF ROAD motorcycling. This is unfortunate, but what can be done? Sometimes people with little-to-no experience in something pontificate as though they have knowledge in an area. I have even seen them stoop as far as a generic search on Google, as if Internet searches are a credible method of research. It is at times such as these that I suggest we exercise love and grace, but we often must set the facts in order.

I would like to thank Twitter follower Scott Becker (@sbeck5455) for sending this very factual piece of evidence to support what all the FASTEST motocross riders already know: white boots are the choice of MOTOCROSS champions.

Now, if there are those out there who confuse MOTOCROSS with ROAD BIKING, well, let's at least be nice to them until they get their training wheels off their motorcycles.

    Chris,
As a motocross racer with over 20 years experience, black was the universal choice of pretty much everyone until Fox Racing decided to mix it up in the late 90’s with their white boots. Since then, white has been the choice of younger. hipper crowd! I’m old-school, I’ll take a pair of black Alpinestar Tech-10’s, thank-you! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a feeling Tim will be posting numerous female riders wearing white racing boots.

White boots on the front rider invoke the rule not dissimilar to the first rule of Italian driving; “What’s behind you is not important!”
This rule is; “If you are in front, no one is looking at your boots!”
However, to more pressing Italian motorcycle tour issues. It is somewhat inconceivable that one of your knowledge and experience(Tim can be excused as an amateur)would consider touring the remarkable contours of Italy on a German motorcycle? Che cosa fa? What do you have against Ducatti, I know it cannot be fear? Did you let Tim choose the ride? I am pretty sure you can rent a nice 1199 Panigale or an 848 Corsa, or any model for that matter, maybe an older classic. Would you go the villa of your best Italian friend and ask for a glass of German beer and some schnitzel? I don’t think so! You would joyously sip his best wine, along with his family recipe pasta dish. If you ride the Duke,(bright red, or maybe yellow) no one will care what color your boots wear. If you ride the
Bee emmay voo it won’t really matter! And nothing they make can compare to the feel and sound of the bike that belongs on those roads! You will not be unhappy!
(Note: a response from this blog’s editorial staff: While your point is well taken, to be sure, the difficulty comes in the fact that this is not a mere ON ROAD ride (as apparently Mr. Marks is also confused, pointing as he has, to ROAD RIDING apparel as his sole source of boot color choice), but this ride will also take us OFF ROAD, through a trail system I know of around the mountain ridges behind Cortona and to the battle areas of Lake Trasimeno. Due to these grueling, on-and-off road demands, a bike like the 1200 GS BMW is the world’s best choice. Thanks for your concerns about our Italian style, which we share with all our hearts. However, we are sure that upon learning of this off-road feature of our ride, you will understand our selection of the German machine.)

I’ll be sixty at the end of this month, so my memory of Motorcycle Boots goes back several decades. My earliest recollection in this matter, is seeing my late Uncle pull up in our driveway on a Harley Davidson Servi-Car. Uncle Lee was my Hero, as he was a Policeman in our town…his Boot of choice? Engineer Boots aka “Wellingtons”. I hope this isn’t too painful Chris…they were Black.

    Chris,
Love this topic. I too am a dirt biker from the 80’s. My bike of choice…..Honda CR. The boots were red……and BLACK.
Sorry brother, but red and black were always the best colors…..and apparently still are. I notice those were the colors you chose for the LIFE products.
Might I suggest ending this white boot / black boot controversy and you and Tim both wear red & black LIFE gear?

Thanks for clearing up the multi-terrain aspect, I was wondering if that was the case. That being the situation, and learning from the best problem solvers in the world, I am happy to let you know that Ducatti also has a line of multi-terrain bikes, which you will find fully enjoyable. The Multistrada 1200 S Pikes Peak seems like the perfect choice, Italian, red, based on the Pikes Peak hillclimbing winner, and ooooooo, so sweetly Ducatti!
As an experienced rider, motorcycle industry verteran, professional road racer, and 1 year resident of Sardinia(a long time ago, and I actually rode owned a Norton 750 Combat Commando, ha ha, couldn’t afford the Duke), I will just add that motorcycle ratings are political, unles you get them from experienced people you know. The paid riders of the motorcycle industry who write about these bikes are most often simply that; “paid” riders who talk about what they get paid to talk about, not to say they are dishonest, but there is a lot of money being spent on advertising! Just take a look before you finalize. I think you may find a Ducatti with your “butt marker” on it, roaring the wonerfully curvy roads of NC before long.

I am so glad the controversy has not died a natural death. It’s perhaps not as amusing to the newer LIFE member, but they will catch on!
I agree with Janet, please put the play on words on your blog. Our Pastor likes to begin our Bible study with humor, and I know he would love to use some of those!
