I stumbled across this compilation of the entire 66 commercials of the famous “PC vs. Mac” days. To me, this is some of the cleverest marketing ever. Notice the subtlety with which the Mac guy wins these standoffs without appearing to be mean. Slamming a competitor this hard but making the audience laugh at the same time is a very difficult balance to strike. Well done. I also think it’s a bit of a laugh the way the “PC”guy slighlty resembles Bill Gates, and the “Mac” guy Steve Jobs. This cannot be coincidence.

Of course, these are so funny because they ring with truth. Mac’s are unarguably miles above the rest.

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Chris Brady

Funny thing is, that the “Mac” guy co-starred with Bruce Willis in one of the “Die Hard” movies – He played an internet geek!
Thanks for the find, I’d never looked at these commercials in that way before!

I enjoyed these commercials, but I am a PC guy and I can do anything a Mac can do…its all about Software. Being a Tech Guy myself feel that Mac puts out good product, but you can’t do any of your own support. This is great if you don’t know what you’re doing, but if you do, it is a massive hindrance. I want to be able to build and repair my computer as I see fit and Apple’s business practices prohibit that in a major way. The prices are soo exorbitant that you’re scared to look inside the case, and the moment you do without an Apple Genius present your warranty is void.

Very clever advertising campaign indeed. I absolutely agree with your observation regarding the genius that Apple struck in slamming Microsoft. I think it is important to point out that Microsoft is the giant that everyone already wanted to slay which makes that job a bit easier.
Consider Microsoft’s negative ad campaign “Scroogled” which appears to have been hugely successful at informing the masses of another alternative to avoid Microsoft as Chromebooks outsold MacBooks 5:1 in 2013.
Only Apple fans think that MACs are “unarguably miles above the rest” and today represents about 6% of the market. I am not saying they aren’t better but I am saying that Apple still has a very long way to go in convincing folks if they are and I am also saying that Google/Android is going to make that job more difficult.
    Best Regards. ddb
