Books for the Spiritual Journey

Some of the most important reading we can do as leaders is of books that feed and guide the soul.  Below (in no particular order) is a list of some of the books in that realm which have had a great impact on my own spiritual journey.  I hope they do the same for you!

    Bradyman, your posts about books are a whole lot more interesting when you haven’t previously recommended the books! With one exception (The Truth War) I have already read them all because of your recommendations! Now, how about books 17-32? Thanks buddy.
    P.S. I’m picking up The Truth War today. Thanks again.

    Thanks for your advice Chris.
    I know for me personally “Wild at Heart” was a personal favorite for all men dealing with the spiritual battle and how to discover passion through Jesus Christ.

    Chris,
    Thank you for putting this list up. I have just recently started to look for where the principles that are taught from stage are located in the Bible. I am very much looking forward to reading these and the other one you recomended to me in colorodo by John MacArthur called The Leadership Book. One I just finished reading by J. Oswald Sanders is Spriritual Leadership, I saw it on my pastor’s desk and bought it(Incredible book). Another one I read that is not in print anymore but easy to find if you look for it is Heroic Faith by Voice of the Martyrs. I think of you and Orrin and what you guys are going through for our benefit so much when I read that book. Keep up the posts, they are a huge encouragement.

    Chris,
    Have you read Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster?
    This book is an incredibly profound study of the spiritual disciplines that are necessary for Christian spiritual growth. It is quite a deep read but not overly wordy or complex. It’s enlightening discourse will explain why you have seen spiritual growth at certain times in your life and how to replicate those periods of intimacy with your Savior. A true classic. The magazine Christianity Today called it “one of the best ten books of the 20th century.”
    It is a “must read” for any Christian.

    Thank you for the time to recommend the books.
    I wanted to pass on to others on the blog that it was a challenge to find #7 – Be Sure What You Believe, by Joe Nesom. Anybody looking for a copy may have to resort to used book searches or distributors in the UK – unless you or Orrin have a better option.
    In light of some of the books on the list, I would recommend picking up a copy of “The Works of Henry Scougal” – The key item in the book is the section “The Life of God in the Soul of Man” which is a reprint of the book by the same title.

    Chris,
    I wanted to update my previous post on this topic…I am about two chapters shy of finishing Nesom’s ‘Be Sure What You Believe.’
    I am embarrassed to say that having grown up in a Bible believing church, attended a Bible college, and blessed with a number of true Christian mentors at different points in my life, I was so messed up on the basic concept of faith. Forgive my analogy, but it has been like trying to do calculus with a misunderstanding of basic algebra.
    Again, thank you for the recommendation. For those reading the posts to this blog…Amazon.com had 14 copies of the book available on line, and it looks like they are still available through Evangelical Press.

    Thanks Chris,
    This list will help me with my 2015 goals both spiritually and even business wise. The recent books such as rascal and Wave Makers will Be incorporated in my new daily readings.
    What else is needed to be said you and the Leaders and community give me Hope for my future and As a 21 year old man its crazy to see the lack of hope all around me.
