This year's Winter Leadership Convention has to go down in history as the best ever!  A hearty salute goes ouCrowdt to the thousands who refused to let the "Obstacles" of a little bad weNew_imageather slow you down!  What a packed arena!  All the speakers did such an outstanding job, and the LIFE Training employees and volunteers put on an entirely professional, inspirational, smoothly run show.  Thank you to each and every person who helped make this weekend a life-changer for so many people.

I have been inundated with comments , emails, and messages about what a fantastic weekend it was.  In the comment section of this post, please let us know what your favorite part was!  What touched your heart?  What fired you up?  What was the biggest "nugget" you came away with? Did you like the new tools, and what was the most helpful?  We'd like to hear it all!

My favorite story from the weekend is about Obstacles himself.  Here is the transcript from two text messages I received fSmash_up_closerom a couple making their way home:

"Obstacles already trying to hold us back!  The bobblehead stopped us dead at airport security . . . But we overcame!  Great weekend.  Just what we needed!"

"After he was removed and body cavity searched, he was returned to us in his cardboard casket!"

I guess even Obstacles has a little trouble getting through airport security!

God bless all of you, and may your leadership abilities continue to soar!

    Chris,
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time, on the way out of your hotel, to stop and shake my hand Saturday morning. I know you must have been busy, and it can’t be easy to deal with 20 or 30 thousand Team members wanting some of your time.
You were very gracious to take the time to shake my hand and offer some kind words to “one of your 3 bloggers”. 🙂
Attending the church service with the Team made a huge impact on me.
To say “going to a million” to impact the culture of America and the world is one thing.
To see the beginnings of those million with your own eyes, and to be a part of it, are beyond words to describe.
Thanks to the office, the volanteers, the staff, and all the Leaders who made this weekend truly unforgettable.

I loved you and Terri this weekend. Thank you for all you have done on the battlefield. It is appreciated more than you know. Let us know what you guys need from us to win this battle and you will get it. I can’t wait to talk with you guys about the phases we will go through. I can see many happening over time, and one million people is a short term goal. We will get there soon enough. Thanks again for all you do, and keep up the battle my warrior friend!

This weekend was amazing. I already listed some of my favorite moments from the conference on Orrin’s blog, but this one thing bears repeating. I brought home an Obstacles bobblehead to an already skeptical spouse who did not attend the conference. I enthusiastically opened the cardboard box and pulled the two styrofoam pieces apart – smiling the whole time – to reveal the whimsical metaphor. “Isn’t this cool? It stands for overcoming obstacles,” I said. I My wife looked at it, looked at me and without skipping a beat said “You’re taking that thing to work.” It wasn’t that funny at the time, but cracks me up when I think about it now. I will never forget your Obstacles talk for the rest of my life. Put that thing out on DVD so my wife can see it. Thanks for everything that you do for the TEAM. We appreciate you!

As I look at my Obstacles right now in front of me I would like to thank you for your awesome talks!
I just finished the new Leading the Consumer Rebellion book (LCR) and WOW what a great job you guys did…that is awesome information written so well to the new person and the veteran alike…the new pack that goes with it is TOP NOTCH! I still remember seeing the plan the first time and having the guy go out and dig through his trunk for the “best two tapes for me”…this system is soooo much better than it used to be!
I also want to thank Mrs Brady for the talk on Saturday night…my marriage has already benefited from it!

    Hey Chris,
What a great weekend! One of many highlights of the weekend for my wife and I had to be your and Terri’s talk on Friday night. I found myself just in awe of how you and her complete one another.
She has such a great gift of communication such great leadership principles through stories! The way she ties all of her points through story is such an impacting way of communicating! Thank you Terri!
Your talk about Obstacle’s really met made an impact on me. Specifically the teaching you did around both the internal and external obstacles! The productive loop vs. the destructive loop was huge for me as well.
Thank you to both you and Terri for paying the price for continued growth in your lives. I know with everything that is going on right now it would have been easy not to continue growing and learning, but that is not what true leaders do and you both are GREAT Leaders!
I just want you to know that because of your continued growth our lives were impacted BIG TIME this weekend! Thanks for standing for excellence! I look forward to seeing you on down the road!

Your talk on Obstaclés was something that I will never forget. I still have to go back and review my notes as I was able to write while laughing but too busy laughing to digest. darn.
Dr. Rohm’s talks were both outstanding and entertaining. Thanks for bringing him into the fold. I was also very touched by our CEO’s message. His heartfelt presentation pulled on my heartstrings as only Chuck Goetschel has in the past. Thank you to all of the leaders and great job!!!

    Chris,
The whole weekend was great – as always, many nuggets of wisdom.
The thing that impacted me the most was the reaction and feedback of a person that just saw the leadership development oppertunity a week before and figured a way to come with us basically last minute. Before last August, he wanted nothing to do with TEAM Leadership. He just wasn’t looking. For various reasons, he found himself in the looking zone. He was so impressed with what he experienced this weekend – the speakers, the atmosphere, the attitude of everybody on stage and in the crowd and at the hotels, etc. – that he couldn’t stop saying on the 8 hour drive home how much he knows he’s in the right place with the right people at the right time. That has helped it start to sink into my thick skull just a little more what “making a difference” is all about. It’s great to be on the journey………..

There were too many wonderful items to list just one, but here are the top ones for me:
    1. Obstacles: My obstacles seemed to shrink down into manageable little twerps that I could laugh at and then crush – with love in my heart, of course – but just crush’em. At the end, when you said they were actually there to make us stronger, it all seemed to come together.
    2. Pastor Dickie about passion, about throwing your soul into it, pursuing excellence, being an example, being accountable, being driven, being focused.
    3. Dr. Rohm: It was not just understanding other personalities, which is very important. It was having words to say or feelings to transfer to them: challenges for D, recogntioin for I, etc. For me, it takes it from an intellectual thing to something I can apply.
    4. And overall, the weekend showed me how much I don’t know, how much I can learn, how much people on this Team care for others, and how many ripples we can create, one by one, that will reach out over this land and into the future.
There may be no way to thank all of you for everything you’ve done and to show our appreciation, but I know I am getting better, and that I will strive day in and day out to pursue excellence in my life.

    Hi Chris:
    The week-end was fantastic.
I think you and Orin should start off every major together. That was such a perfect beginning.
I loved your Obstacle’s talk. It was so meaningful, but also made everyone laugh out loud. Thank you for taking time to visit and sign my book.
Terry made me cry. She really touched my heart.
Delores Martin was over the top. I love her. The way her and Jim edified Tim and Amy was awesome.
Pastor Dickie’s son touched my heart as well with his story.
I tended to cry alot this week-end.
    Robert Rohm was great.
I did miss hearing Chuck Goetschel. I think he is very inspiring.
There were so many great speakers, stories and lessons taught. I know I am missing naming many.
Thank you, all the leaders, and everyone who assists with making these events happen.
I am already making plans for June.

What a great weekend if there’s any spelling errors please forgive me I had to work at 7am this morning and didn’t get home until 4 am but doesn’t matter, lifes to short for sleep anyways. My favorite part of the weekend was Jim and Deloris. Don’t get me wrong all the speakers were great but they connected emotionally, I almost cried(felt like wuss) but just awesome weekend. I’d like to make a request I think for our April seminar here in Kitchener, Ontario it would be sweet to have You and Terry as the speakers. We arent the biggest group but we will be. And I want to thank You and Orrin for all the sacrifices as of late. I’ve been with team since March of 07 and seen so many awesome changes happen. Anyways see you guys at Mens leadership in Michigan theres a group of about 20 guys that try to make it out to Flint any time we can.

Loved the weekend! I want to thank all the people on stage and off who were involved in putting on such a life changing event. We like many came home with pages of notes. One leader on our flight was still studying and writing in her notepad even on the flight home! We liked so many but one that comes to mind is the talk Mark & Tammy Crawford gave. WOW … Tammy gave such a detailed talk on “Well liked People” that I have been rereading and thinking about. Her talk was so helpful to me. Mark was fantastic – his talk on hitting your ‘stop’ button when you start to go down the wrong path really stuck with me. I used that stop button 4 times today! Not only that…I remembered to identify my go button and keep it going! Creating a spirit of cooperation is what he said … fantastic vision and so very valuable! Thanks for creating a 3D of our special guest speaker Obstacles. Our household has already had loads of fun with him. Most importantly, after we gave our kids their TEAM tshirts, I looked in my daughter’s eyes and said to her, when they ask about the TEAM, you tell them your daddy is out helping people. She just glowed. Thank you Chris. Today’s the Day!

I only have a few obstacles my up-line is 1300 miles away and our monthly meetings are 4 hours away. I will not let these obstacles stop me from forming an army of MEN OF OTHERS! Oh wow… it’s truly like the leaders of my team said when they were trying to tell me what it is like. How do you describe your first convention to others??!! It was certainly Spirit-filled, vision filled, motivated, character and integrity filled, and FIRED UP! I am just in awe of you and Terri, Orrin and Laurie, and all the rest. I cried joyfully so much this weekend realizing where this is going… Team is going to more than a million, I just know! I am so privileged to be a part of the growth, and the touching of culture and life in the U.S. and world.
The nuggets that stuck out to me were finishing well, holding strong to our committments, don’t let silly little Obstacles (ha ha, every time I see that word now I pronounce it in Greek) stand in the way of my goals, read, read, and read some more, and so so much more. Terri, you are such a sweetheart and I am so grateful for you being on the Team and serving with Chris. You guys are awesome, and I thank God for you and the others… He is truly doing a magnificent work in Team, touching and transforming lives.
I loved the whole weekend. Who cares that we had 6 hrs to drive? We had Team CDs to listen to on the way out and back!! I am just so fired up and excited to join you all in growing the Team. That stadium will be full soon, I know.
    In deepest gratitude~

Developing a deeper desire to WIN!
Terri’s talk on marriage – tough words, but so right!

She too is a transparent selfless leader who never ceases to touch my heart. Hey Chris — This was my 3rd Leadership Convention and this was really the best. I just have to say that I bought an OBSTACLES doll and its sitting on my desk at work right now. So many time I get into a rut at work — thats a place I need to develop, and just looking over at Obstacles and other people noticing him really helps me a lot. It reminds me of you smashing them on Friday night and that just seems to make obstacles that I have much easier. I really hope that talk comes out on DVD!

This was our first major, since we joined Team in July ’07. Obstacles always got in the way before, but no more! My husband was specifically inspired by you and Orrin and is now committed to reading an hour a day because “Leaders are Readers”.
Dr. Rohm was also very inspirtational to us and the information we received from him has already been put into action by better understanding our children and each other.
We had a 4 hour drive home and I read aloud from the 5 Love Language book, which we completed on Sunday night.
We got so much from the conference just for ourselves and self-improvement, now we are going to work on diving deeper into leadership development… Watch out, here we come!

The entire weekend was incredible…how is one to pick a favorite?
Obstacles was a riot…and informative. I purchased one for myself and one for my partner, that was unable to attend. She will be attending the Phoenix event with us.
Dr. Rohm had to be another highlight. Not only did he share valuable information, but he demonstrated each personality, which brought them to life. I am a visual person (C/S), so it really helped to cement the information into my head.
The most touching, inspirational part was the Martin’s…the dedication and sacrifice as a family was incredible. My congratulations to them. One thing I noticed was that their passion was shared by their team. Their growth will be an incredible story to watch.
I want to thank you and Orrin for creating an event and atmosphere where we can come to grow as an individual, and as a team.

Wow! What a fantastic weekend in St. Louis! The convention in Louisville last October was phenomenal, but I definitely think this one topped it and can’t wait for the next one. Chris, I really appreciate all that you do to serve the Team and the talk you gave about Obstacles and the bobble head doll is a great visual reminder of how ugly they can be.
There were so many amazing talks that it’s really hard for me to pick a favorite, but Saturday night with Jim and Delores is probably the most memorable for me. With Delores’ enthusiasm and Jim’s drive and determination, it doesn’t really surprise me that they have achieved such a tremendous amount of success. They are both great leaders and it was neat to see their kids on stage and how close they are as a family.
I would say that Robert L. Dickie III’s talk on Sunday touched my heart the most. I can relate to him on losing someone very close to cancer. I don’t know how he held himself together and didn’t break down in tears.
Orrin’s talk probably fired me up the most as they always do. He just has a way of using words to inspire me and think about the future and how much we are impacting and will impact the world.
Dr. Rohm’s personality teachings gave me deeper insight into the four temperament theory and ways to build long lasting relationships with others. I took a lot of nuggets home from his talks and am applying them to my life and eager to go out utilize what I learned from him. I think it’s awesome that we had a guest speaker at the convention and look forward to having more in the future at majors!
I was really impressed with all the new tools in the clue room. I purchased the Maximize your Finances pack and can’t wait to listen to all the cds and read the book.
It was such a great weekend that I could write all day long on how it has impacted me, but I just want to say it’s very comforting to hear all the top leaders mention God at some point in their talks. I am a Christian man and Team has been a HUGE reason for me becoming a stronger Christian. I feel that I have really grown in spiritual maturity in the last few months and know that so many others have been impacted the way I have through Team.
Godspeed Chris! Have a great day and keep doing what God has called you and Orrin to do. We are going to a million and beyond!

    Chris,
I have to agree with George R. It is very hard to pick a single thing out as the highlight of the weekend! The entire weekend itself was the highlight! But if I had to pick out some things to stand out, they would be this (in no particular order):
    1. Obstacles. For some fun yet odd reason, for every Major I’ve been to (St. Louis being my 3rd), I’ve always had an extra day after the event ended before my flight home. With that, and the last major in Louisville, I had the chance to tour the Louisville Slugger museum. Going through there and their gift shop, you can bring home smaller models of their bats. I’m happy to say that I now have one of the 3 Obstacles heads sitting right next to the bat I’d use on him if he dares to pop up anywhere near me!
    2. Dr. Rohm. That guy is an absolute riot! But he made a good point for me. With my being High C, I was actually thinking of paying off my parent’s house! While it took a while for me to understand Personality Plus, it was very easy for me to understand Dr. Rohm’s DISC. Thank you for inviting him.
    3. Running into one Larry VanBuskirk in the Tool room. After seeing him for the first time in St. George, Larry reminded me of an astute university professor. And to top it off, his Most Valuable Education talk capped it when he said he was going to be our librarian. I learned so much from that talk, that I had to meet him, thank him, and explain why he’s my “Professor”.
    4. George Guzzardo. Not enough can be said about the passion that man has. If the rest of this country were to have heard that talk (and as impassioned as he was in that talk, I wouldn’t doubt if if they did!), they would be on their feet applauding just as we were.
    5. Obstacles. A lot of people on my Team and other Teams from my area (California) were catching the brunt of the weather, with their flights being diverted, staying over night in other places, some staying the night in the airport, etc. As you mentioned, definite obstacles. As they turned their obstacles to their advantage, I did as well. I opted to take my chances and make the last flight from Phoenix to Omaha. I chose Omaha because the weather had cleared up there, and my parents were there. I hadn’t seen them in a good year or so, so it turned out well that I was able to see family on my way to the Major. No better obstacle to turn into an advantage than that.
    6. Growth. I have learned so much about myself and what I can do to grow more as a person and a leader this past weekend. If Louisville was the beginning, this topped that, and then some, and I eagerly look forward to other events.
    7. coming together as a Team, both with my Team, and all of us as a single TEAM. I got to meet a lot of people, a lot of new people, and got to spend time with my Team. As my Team is a long distance leg from another Team, the time we have together as a single unit is very few and far between (Majors). So to be there and grow and function as a single cohesive unit was probably the best highlight for me. I would say that we are growing more as a team, but even more as a family. With that camaraderie, we know that we can count on each other through no matter the problems or obstacles that face us. And that had to have been the warmest, fullest feeling I had felt. I know I would go to bat for this Team, or anyone on the Team, without hesitation.
As Van B. Hooper had once written, and was reused by Father Edward Flanagan in and at Boys Town, “He ain’t heavy, Father, he’s my brother.”

One last thing I forgot to mention in my last comment!
With looking at your earlier releases of the LLR and Leading the Consumer Rebellion, I never understood what that little head guy was at the bottom of the book’s spine, and the weird funky writing of “Obstacles”. Now that I go back and look at those, as well as the new revision of the LCR book, and see Obstacles’ head, I can’t help but laugh! I hope that everyone who saw that talk and everyone who sees that talk (PLEASE make it DVD of the month!) gets a laugh from their books when they see it again!

The new Team shopping cart is great. I already placed my first order on it.
The new Building Relationships definitely hits home!
My (and my team’s) favorite part – My biggest nugget from the weekend? I definitely speak for my teams when WE say WE LOVE the new personality training. Chris (and Terry) – This was our first Leadership Conference since joining Team. Terry’s talk hit me right between the eyes. The theme carried on by Terry, Laurie and Amy to keep the main thing the main thing really ministered to me personally as well as to our team. What excites me most about Team is the integration of the spiritual walk into the processes and challenges of building people and businesses. Rohm’s work on personality styles took understanding and appreciating what each of us brings to the table to a new level…Bravo! The boldness at which Team stands on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ was evident throughout every part of the weekend. Thank you!

This past weekend was great!! Steve and I were so pumped up on the way home! When we bought our Obstacles we joked about winning the big one and if we did we would stick right on top of the TV….well when our name was called on Saturday night we could not believe our luck. Times they are a changing!!! We recieved our bobble head yesterday evening. He is now on top of the TV just as we said. This life is about choices and our choice is to make this world, country , and town a better place. The Team Leaders are on the right path to bring the USA back to its roots. May you and your family be blessed in your efforts.

    Chris!
I cannot even begin to single out one thing over the rest from our time in St Louis!
You and Orrin at the start were magnificent! You and the bobble heads had me laughing so I hard I thought I might pass out! Dr Rhome talking about his 23 year old daughter losing her shoes…well let’s just say I was 41 at the time and drove to work before I realized I had forgotten to put my shoes on!! Smart guy, eh?
And there was oh so much more….
    Fight the good fight…..BBNQ!

We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed, we reap a good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
