TerriAt the risk of this blog becoming a public romance, (especially in light of the nice surprise she cooked up for me on my birthday), I have decided to feature my incredible wife, Terri Brady, as the next leader in this series of noteworthy contemporary leaders.

Many women ask what the proper role of a woman should be in leadership.  The best answer I can give of this is for people to simply observe Terri Brady in action.  And regarding Terri I have a great perspective for this – I am married to her!  I get to see her on a daily basis, living and carrying out the principles she teaches from stage.

I believe one of Terri’s biggest strengths as a leader is how Christ-centered she is.  It has been this way since I met her.  She loves the Lord Jesus Christ and is desperately concerned to do His will and to serve His purposes.

Another area in which Terri shines as a leader is in her incredible personal discipline.  Each day she rises early and does her Bible study, then does one of her many workouts.  No matter how much we have been traveling, working, or whatever, she rarely misses an early morning of her routine.  She is very disciplined in the areas of self-denial, waiting on purchases or food splurges or whatever she has determined must come under her powerful force of self-discipline.

Terri is also incredibly "other focused."  This can readily be seen in her surprise to me on this blog where she wanted to honor me and include all of you in the game!  It can be seen in the way she takes time with her children to educate them, enjoy them, train them, discipline them, and guide them.  It can be seen in how she treats me: always quick to apologize and to give me the benefit of the doubt.  And, probably the most striking: the amazing amount of time and energy she spends thinking about others and what they might need. Terri is ALWAYS asking me about someone else, Did they get out of the hospital? Did they mention if so-and-so had the baby?  Did they need anything from her?  Would it be okay to send her a card?  Do you think I should call her?  Do you think we could pray for them?  These are the questions Terri asks me tirelessly in her concern for others.

Terri is also quick to forgive and slow to be offended.  I have seen her take shots most men couldn’t handle.  She has been as mistreated and harshly dealt with as any leader who dares to stand for something and make a public stand, and she handles it with strength, poise, and grace.  Usually, if something goes wrong, she is quick to assume she is the one to blame and that she must have done something wrong.

Terri is also hungry for personal change.  Of all the leaders I have been privileged to work with over the years, she has grown personally more than all of them.  She reads, prays, asks me about how she can improve, and holds herself accountable without mercy.

Courage also comes to mind.  Terri is an old-fashioned "scrapper," and is not afraid of confronting injustice.  Reminiscent of Abigail Adams, she does not shy away from a fight and she doesn’t have a cowardly bone in her body.  I don’t mean this in a bad way, as if she is contentious, but rather that she is valiant and willing to push through her fears for the right reasons no matter what.

One last area, although I could literally fill pages about her, is that when I mess up, forget to inform her about something, change her schedule without notice, have to change something I promised, or have to push her considerations to the side because of some pressing business matter, she NEVER makes me pay a price for it!  I mean never!!  I have broken off dinner dates with her, flat cancelled others, changed the plan, then changed it back, then changed it again so many times I cannot count. And incredibly: she doesn’t count them either! I am never hit with a guilt trip, pouting, or "wharehousing" of offenses stored up for a later fight.

Each of these Terri Brady strengths are great examples for anyone on the leadership journey to emulate.  I know I certainly appreciate the up-close example of someone who is truly a great leader, and an incredible wife to a crazy man!  If Terri has been a great example to you, encouraged you, or inspired you in some way, feel free to share it!

I just want to thank you for being the kind of person that gives credit where credit is due, my husband hasn’t completely caught on to that yet…but I along with many other wives, I’m sure, appreciate the example that you and all the other big leaders on Team are for our husbands and that you hold the bar high, and give them the expectation to live up to. Terri is definitely blessed to be teamed up with you. And I looke forward to the day that my husband has some of the same things to say about me! By the way…you guys did awesome on Saturday in Saginaw…you guys hit it out of the park!

    Chris,
How blessed you both are…and your children. Having set in the front row @ a ladies leadership meeting last June ( I think it was June ) in St Louis, we got a moment to meet her. We were so impressed with Terri…beautiful, funny, gracious, warm and friendly…just a few words several of us used later that evening to describe her. Hope to do that again.

    Chris,
After reading the blog Terri posted on your birthday, I had the urge to text her letting her know I much I appreciate her example of what it is to be a leading, loving, and serving woman of Christ, wife, and mother, but couldn’t quite figure out how to fit it all in. She truly is a wonderful example and it shows by how much she makes herself available at EVERY event, whether it’s a local Seminar or the National Leadership. I’ve seen her sacrifice her breaks at conventions to talk to and welcome others and it was always with a smile.

    Chris:
The greatest gift that a man can give his children is to love their mother. You two are such examples of great love for one another. I love Terri’s story about being an engineer and dealing with men all the time. It sounds like she was quite a match for all of them. Yet, she is so poised, and always displays such grace in her actions.
I have had the opportunity to meet her, and she is even lovier in person.
She has touched me with her talks so many times, but the last lady’s leadership she did in St. Louis was a tear jerker. She talked about you and marriage and all the things you described about her in your post. She so touched my heart that day. I remember telling you this when we came over to talk with you.
This post is a great tribute to her, and I salute you for sharing her with us.
    Thanks Chris and Terri.

Thank you Chris. Terri is such an example to all of us. Out of all the leading ladies on the Team she & Anna Huber are my top two ladies to watch and learn from. I have so many lessons still to learn. With God’s help and strength and my self-discipline, one day I pray that I’d reflect all those qualities CONSISTENTLY on a daily basis and become a woman of strength instead of a strong woman. Thank you Terri for everything you do!

Thanks so much for writing this, Chris. Terri is an inspiration to us all. She always takes time for us and when I first met her, I was amazed that she wouldn’t let anybody rush her away from me, but she just stood there listening to me for the longest time, and I know how busy she must have been (it was at the Louisville Major). Her heart for people is obvious, and makes me want to grow to be a bigger person. Thank you Terri for all you do!

Terry, you are an amazing lady I have admired for a long time. I can remember when I was so new, and I was back stage hosting Laurie and so nervous I was going to do something wrong, you took the time to make me feel so comfortable. You said to me, you don’t need to worry, just being you is exactly what she needs right now. That has been several years ago, and yet, it still stands out in my mind because it made such a difference in my life. I appreciate the way you made me feel better when I needed it the most. Another special Terry moment I have is when my boys were just babies, I was by myself in the hall waiting for the girls to finish with Awana. I was smiling at the boys and just being silly and you came by and said to me, I love to see a mom enjoying her important job. Again, many years have gone by and I still remember that day because I do love being a mom, and I love that you took the time to share that with me. I appreciate the way you have always remembered me by name, and have always had a ready smile. But most of all I appreciate that you have such a passion and love to be the wife and mother God has called us to be. What a blessing it is to see you live that life of example for all of us to see. God Bless!

    Chris,
A few years back I had the awesome opportunity to be able to drive Terri home from the airport. First of all, I know that she didn’t need a ride, but she knew that I needed some time with her and she was willing to wait another 2 hours after her trip to see you and the kids just for me to have that time. One thing that I remember about that night that some people would see as insignificant represented an example of serving others even in the little ways. Even after being tired from her trip and already having her hands full of luggage, she called me on my cell phone and asked me if I wanted her to pick me up a coffee on her way out of the airport. I know she was tired but she still managed to keep a conversation going for the almost 2 hour drive back to your house. She encouraged me, challenged my thinking and inspired me. I’m pretty sure I told her thank you, but I’m not sure if she knows how much some of the things that she said to me meant! Looking forward to more time to learn from her soon!!
    God Bless,

    Chris,
Wonderful post on Terri. It just so happens that today I relistened to Butterfly and Buffalo’s. What a fantastic CD. Terri is so awesome in so many ways but when i think of her I think of a woman of strength. Her talks on CD use to really drive me crazy (as did all the women), then my upline called herself complimenting me one day saying that I reminded her of Terri and could see great things in me, (terrible words as the time). As time went on and I matured in the system, became more Christ centered and other focused I started to see all of the leading ladies in a different light especially Terri. The words from my upline began to really be a motivating force as I was now seeing just how God fearing Terri is. I stopped evelauating the “weak” little ladies on stage and started hearing thier heart and opening mine. Then I had the wonderful opportunity to meet The Mrs. Terri Brady in person and instatnly knew it was REAL. I thank God for the moments in time Terri has allowed me to have, for the CD’s shes made for me and for the example she provides for all us Bufferflies!! She truly is an inspiration to me as a woman, a child od God, a mother and business woman. Terri you are the BOMB baby. Keep being real and letting your heart EXPLODE!!

December of 2007 I had the privilege of meeting Terry Brady. On this day I realized dreams come true. All I have to say is what a Woman. So full of humility. This story began in 2005, I heard one of Chris and Terry’s tapes about the struggles they went through to have a family. At the time we were in the middle of our own infertility issues. We had tried for over 2 years to have a baby. I did have 2 older children which I was grateful for. I just did not feel our family was complete. I was sitting in my scrapbook room listening to the tape when she talked about how grateful she was that they had build the business so they had the money to do what ever it would take to have a family. I remember sitting there sobbing. I knew this was a business we needed to be apart of. At that time I knew I needed to meet this woman and thank her for pouring her heart out and doing what ever it takes. In January of 2007 our home was indeed blessed with the birth of our beautiful baby girl. She is a ray of sunshine. When I met
Terry my eyes filled with tears as I told her how grateful I was to be able to meet her. She said that she could not imagine why. As I told her the story she stood in the hall and cried with me as if we were old friends. I was able to spend a little more time with her later in the evening. We talked about our kids and showed each other pictures. She made this small town girl feel like a Rock Star. That is a talent few people poses Thank you for all you do.

    Chris,
Thanks for loving your wife in front of people. This is a lost art in our society and it’s so encouraging to hear some men doing it.
    Two updates:
    1) My last Guard drill came and went. I had summarized the rest of LLR into a massive 117 slide powerpoint and was eager to show it since the other PPs were received so well and then we went on to have such good drills. Well, not this time. The soldiers enjoyed the PP but we ended up having THEE most unproductive drill I can remember in 8 years. I was glad to have learned some leadership principles about staying positive and finding the good, regardless. I drove away thinking, ‘I suppose if everything worked like it should all the time, we’d have no reason to read, now would we?’ And that certainly wouldn’t be good. So, I’m a civilian again and will miss the uniform but am delighted to be a full-time. . .
    2) . . .mom. The 2nd update has to do with momming and how I can’t go a day without being grateful for what the TEAM system has done for that ‘hat’ that I wear. I had been going gangbusters building a team up until recently when I couldn’t help but notice that the TEAM training system was driving me right back into my home. With all that had been going on in the different areas of my life, I had lost focus on my priorities and it feels so good to be diving into the right swimming pool–headfirst (that being my family). I don’t know when I’ll continue building a team again but for the present I’m so grateful to have regained the proper focus, first on personal Bible study and second on serving my family and those around me. What you and Orrin have created has given me a ‘future filter’ and has been the crucial and missing piece in the mammoth job of raising our four sons.
May God continue to give you wisdom to deal, energy to move and heart to inspire. He certainly has chosen you and Orrin (and your wives) for some very special work.
    Gratefully,
    Liz

Terri is incredible! How can one not be encouraged or inspired after having the blessing to hear Terri speak! As a mother and wife, I am always lifted up after listening to Terri’s stories, hearing her contagious laughs and, in person, seeing her beautiful smile. I feel you guys are truely angels God has loaned to us for a while to get us on the proper path. We are so blessed to have your influence in our lives. Thank you to you both for the sacrifices you make so often to forsake yourselves and family to serve and make a difference in another persons life. My husband,Duane, my mother, Jan,and I were blessed to meet you and Terri and I was amazed at just how humble she is as beautiful. Don’t worry, you were just as humble and handsome too Chris! But Terri is a Godsend! Sincerest Blessings to your family!

I loved this post! I have had the honor of being personally mentored by this “contemporary leader”. Though I must say, Terri is clasic. I am in the middle of reading a book on the Founding Mothers of our country and I do believe that Terri would not only have been willing and able to do all of the things those ladies did, she would have been leading the charge. Just like Martha Washington, Abigail Adams and so many others. Those woman were an incredible example of what it means to be a wife and mother. They will never be forgotten for the part they played in the freedom of our country. Terri Brady is an inspiring, beautiful example of just that and she will never be forgotten of the role she has played in the freedoms of what will be millions of peoples live all over the world. Thank you so much for your grace and friendship.

Its 2014 and you wrote this blog post before Life Leadership launched and before I was a Life member. I recently joined in Nov 2013. I found this post when I googled Terri Brady because I wanted to read her blog and didn’t know the address. I love everything about Terri and I just wanted to comment that everything you wrote about her in 2008 still very much applies to her today in 2014.Though I haven’t met her personally, her love for our Lord and for people radiates from that stage and across the stadium. I only hope that I am blessed enough to meet your wonderful wife one day and acknowledge her for who she is for me and all the ladies in Life Leadership. Love you Terri Brady!!!
