Being a student of history has its advantages and disadvantages. In a way, when things happen in current event that mirror events of the past, the student of history sees patterns and repetitions that he feels should be obvious to others. This pattern of repeating history can lead to either pessimism or optimism.

I agree that God is in control, but is He getting us ready for the promised land or for exile in Babylon? Are there any real Republicans in office?

I am glad you posted. I have been upset by the out come of the election (not just the presidential part.) I’ve needed a better perspective and this helps.
It is true that conservative principles were not present. And that is what was most frustrating. But the pendulum will swing, it always does. Hopefully enough people will awaken to spiritual truths that the pendulum can be kept from careening out of control like what happened in the French Revolution.LikeLike

It is up to us what we’re getting ready for. Also, YES! They are ALL real Republicans in office. The party has shifted sharply left and increasingly unable to stand up for what is right. Mccain would have won if he would have stood up and led the party against the “socialist” bailout. But how could he do that, he just stood on the principle’s of what he believes. To respond to Chris: My friend, it is now time for us to LEAVE these two parties. We did what we could to defeat full blown marxism with a little socialism. What we really need to do now is support neither. What? Are we afraid to be in the minority? I say we are weak cowards if we continue to support either one of them. Who said we HAVE to be part of a so-called “major” party. We ought to realize that being Replublican or Democrat is not the only or best way to “be heard” or make a difference. It just so happens that, anymore, its the worst way.

guess all us real conservatives have to look forwards to for the next 4 years is working on getting conservatives into as many local, state, and federal offices as possible. The only way we can combat a terrorist approving, ultra liberal president is by counterbalancing him with as many strong conservatives as possible.
In 2 years many House of Represenataives and Senate seats will become open – let fill them with the best folks we can find.LikeLike

Chris,
Great post! I am so grateful and thankful the Gods hand is in the affairs of men.
I am blessed and glad to be an American and excited about the possiblities. Oh I know that many will read this post and say everything from “what” to many other things I dare not print. But since I strive to be honest, I am often sickened by peoples rhetoric about “getting this country back to what it used to be”. Why, some may ask? Mainly because what we said we stood for in many respects we did not. We have been marred by hate and racism from our inception and just maybe 52% of this country is ready to write a new history that includes actually standing on the principles of Gods word and his never ending love.
Although I do not agree with all of Baracks positions, nor that of the democratic party. I also do not condone many of the actions that the republican party has taken over the past eight years. I am ready for change and willing to give him a chance.
Lets expect a bright new future, PRAY for OUR leadership, take persoanl responsiblity and continue to Do More and Get Better. God Bless America!

Great post! I pray that someday in the future we will have someone who was part of the TEAM running for different offices, because this TEAM culture we are exposed to opens our eyes and we now know the truth! After the election, I was talking to some fellow TEAM-mates, and we believe that our country has really succumb to 95% thinking, and that sometimes, it’s tough to be on the 5% thinking side, it’s both a blessing and a curse, because once you know the truth, you can’t unknow it, all you can do is try to bring to the truth to others. We on the TEAM have the truth, and truth is not determined by majority vote. We must take heart in the fact that we know we are on the right side, because the TEAM culture is so needed in our nation, and we all can work to spread this culture to others, one by one! FIRED UP!

Chris,
I seem to have a bad case of cynicism. I can’t seem to turn the button off. Do you think
they’ll have a government program for this?
Sincerely,

Sorry for the manure comment. Obviously my condition is far worse than first thought. Christmas is just around the corner, and maybe Santa will bring me a nice straight jacket and padded cell.

and don’t tell me there isn’t a Santa ClausLikeLike

We shouldn’t worry about whether or not the person in office will lead us to the promise land.
What we should be concerned about is whether or not the situation will cause a country to turn to the Lord.
Having Obama in office may in fact bring the people to their knees and cause them to turn to the Lord when they realize they can’t turn to Obama.
Who knows? Like Chris said, God is sovereign.
And I agree. As far as our responsibility goes, we should get some folks on the ticket that hold to legit conservative principles.LikeLike

Chris,
I have read both your comments and Orrin’s. They both read very much like a coouple of books I would highly recommend if anyone has any further interest on this topic — “The Light And The Glory” and “From Sea To Shining Sea,” both by David Manuel and Peter Marshall. (Peter Marshall is the son of Christian author Catherine Marshall and Chaplain of the Senate John Marshall.)
While not mentioning Tyler by name, both of these books talk about Tyler’s thoughts. They use them to discuss the waxing and waning of the U.S.’s fortunes prior to the Revolution in the first book, and then prior to the Civil War in the second.
Both conflicts were preceded by revival, when the people of God had become so distressed by the conditions around them they cried out as one for God to do something, anything! In both cases, God answered with revival. We know the second one as The Great Awakening. It was out of that revival that the cries for justice in society gained such strength, which gave birth to the anti-slavery movement, and led directly to the Civil War.
It is time once again for all believers everywhere to unite and call for revival! When there is nowhere to turn on earth, the only place to turn is to God, for He is our only ultimate Salvation, anyway. Look no longer to men, but to God!! Cry it out in your churches, and then walk it out in your prayer closets. It is only through revival and the change it brings that we will see the real changes in society such as we hunger to see.LikeLike

Hi, Chris,
Two days after Election Day, I sent an e-mail to some of my Teammates. I’d like to post it here. It includes a lead to some very wise words by a man many people on the Team respect a lot.Bill
My fellow Americans,
Today is November 6. All day yesterday, November 5, I could think of almost nothing except the results of this year’s presidential and congressional election the day before, November 4. I had the very fortunate minutes yesterday evening of hearing a radio commentator play excerpts from the speech “A Time for Choosing” Mr. Ronald Reagan gave on October 27, 1964, I suppose about one week before Election Day that year, on the fight against socialism and government control that the United States faced at that time.
The radio commentator gave the hyperlink to the speech, which I would like to forward to you and others. The site has a video of the speech, an MP3 audio of the speech, and a full transcript. The speech is about 27 minutes long. Incidentally, this speech is now regarded as the starting point in time of Mr. Reagan’s political career. He was 53 years old when he gave it.
I listened to the speech myself in full. Except for the specific cultural events he refers to that happened only in the 1960s, everything else he said made it sound exactly like Mr. Reagan is speaking directly to us today, live, concerning what–in my opinion–our nation now faces from the results of Election Day 2008. Listen for yourself.
