I am not a hunter. I am not a woodsman. I am not a conspiracy-theorist. I am not a vigilante. However, I do like to shoot guns, and I strongly believe in the freedom granted by the Second Ammendment to the Constitution of the United States that gives us the right to bear arms.

1. Part of the reason is that guns are a fun sport, and when operated safely and handled properly, they are statistically less dangerous to human life than driving a car or flying an airplane (which each need to be handled with respect as well). If you don't believe me, check the statistics. One of the biggest risks you will ever take in your life is to drive your car across town.  Car accidents are so common, and even fatal ones are so common, that they are barely newsworthy. On the other hand, gun-related deaths are much rarer, and are almost always headline news. But on any given day, there are drastically more car deaths than gun deaths.

2. Another reason I believe in the right to bear arms is that criminals don't adhere to federal laws, such as those stipulating that guns are illegal. However, honest people do obey the law. As soon as guns are eliminated by law, the only people that will have them are the criminals, who, at that point, will be smart enough to realize that the victims of their crimes will be defenseless! Does the phrase "waving red at a bull" mean anything to you?

3. Another reason is that governments just cannot be trusted. Throughout the history of mankind governments have used their power to infringe upon the freedoms of "their people."  An armed populace is a populace that is protected against tyranny and state-sponsored genocide.

Just as with my comments concerning the economy lately, I will ask the same question: Must we force history to repeat itself?

Awesome Chris:If we don’t start Standing up for our freedoms, who will? I was born a Canadian Citizen & have lived in the great U.S.A. since 2 yrs. old, when I would visit in Canada on summer’s out of American School, my relatives & friends would joke & call me the Yankee (I was south of them, not southern US): well in 2003 I deonounced my Canadian Citizenship & became an official U.S. Citizen (Yankee) because I had decided to start standing up for our Rights, that I would see being taken away from other countries (Canada, Britain, Australia,& United States).
I still respect the country I was born in, but that country has gradually declined to Socialism (not far from Communism), & people I run into almost daily talk about Socialized medicine (which does’t truely exist in Canada, any longer). I tell them, then why don’t you move there:Canada, Soviet Union or China…
This is the best Country in World, we just need to start standing up on Principle(s) and not care that we are different from the rest, because that is what it will take to bring this country back to how it was founded…
Thank You, Chris Brady & Orrin Woodward (& all the other Leaders) that TEAM has created & will be creating, that Lead the way TOGETHER, till the Day we Die…………….

Yes, I like the second ammendment, almost as much as I like the first (I used that one a couple dozen times today).
Not many people would even think about robbing/assaulting the folks in a state like Texas. Why? Because they all carry loaded guns…NOT concealed.
Hey, but if they’re going to ban guns anyway, go invest in a bunch now as well as ammo. That way, when the guns are gone and the dollar tanks, you’ll be able to solve two problems.

I completely agree with your first and second reasons for guns. However your third reason about protection from the government seems silly to me.
Maybe with other governments but ours is too much intertwined with the people. The same argument is made for free trade. Since everyone is relying on multiple others it would be hard to go to war and pick sides. You could expand that by saying it would be bad for the other countries if the US government tried to subjugate it’s own people and the other countries would step in.
Additionally the army that fights for us would have to fight against us and I do not think that many would chose to do so. Again one of the big reasons would be that because we are so intertwined. Even if the our government bought the services of another army or militia to use they would still have to contend with OUR army.
Anyways, that is just my two cents.

    Chris,
I am a lady who totally agrees with you on this subject, too. Most ladies would not. As I understand it, many ladies don’t like the noise and masculine behaviors often associated with guns. I’m not enthralled by those, myself. It’s the chance to exercise a hard-won skill I enjoy.
My father was an avid hunter and woodsman. Of his 5 children, 3 of us were daughters, and I am the eldest of them. I am the only one of the girls with any interest in guns. One sister ignores them, and the other hates them. For me, guns were a way to get close to and spend time with our emotionally unapprochable father, something neither of my sisters ever understood.
So yes, I know how to shoot, though I am quite rusty now. In high school and college, I became quite good and won competitions using the most difficult form of target weapon, black powder, the type used in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. My father never took my expressed desires to hunt seriously, so I never did that, though. In the end, it’s not something I particularly regret.
My husband’s father wasn’t into guns, and he didn’t have much of any experience with them until high school ROTC. He did not do well there, though it didn’t turn him off to them. When invited to go shooting by my father when we were dating, he accepted, and took his defeat at the hands of both my dad and myself graciously. (Gotta love a guy who can get trounced by his girlfriend at a “guy sport” and come up smiling!)
I was raised to believe children plus guns are as deadly a mixture as liquor plus guns. My father always had his guns locked in one place, and his ammunition locked in another, usually on 2 different floors of our home. Though we ourselves never had guns in our home with our own kids as they grew up (special needs kids plus guns are a recipie for disaster), both of our now adult kids know our feelings about them.
In the end, when all is said and done, on the subject of gun control, I go back to the words of my dad’s favorite NRA bumper sticker. It was the one he replaced every time my mom got a new car or he got a new truck. It said, “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” It’s just the arguement that makes the most sense.

    Hi Chris,
Yes, History will continue to repeat itself.
Our sin nature is the cause.
People want what they cant have and haven’t worked for.
Just as Cain slew Able because he didnt get the reward from GOD, the ner do wells will tear this country apart looking for the supply of golden eggs inside the goose.
Orrin said that material things will never make him happy.
Obama has not learned that yet. He’s trying to get people happiness by giving them presents.
Some groups of people have the idea that they always get the short end of the stick. They believe it, so they get it. They have programmed themselves this way, to get less than the best.
People dont see the work, struggles or heart aches you have gone through to be where you are.
They only see you have more than them, and they want what you’ve got. If they could get what you’ve got then they would feel happy, so they tkae from you (sin) and they are still not happy. They will never be happy or at peace. NEVER

    Chris,
Agreed! Our govt. has been slowly dis-arming the people of this country for years. A group of people unable to defend themselves become slaves to their offenders. It all starts with the media war. Our minds are our finest weapons and “they” know that! Kill people’s ability to think and they become helpless! As you say, we’ve got all this ammo, now it’s a matter of putting our best soldiers on the field utilizing the weapons they’ve been trained to fight back with!
“It’s the unconquerable soul of man, not the nature of the weapon he uses, that insures victory.”..

Chris, as usual, a remarkable group of thoughts that not only states the obvious (something that too many people need stated, but also stirs those of us who are in this war to win! Ladies & gentlemen, as I have said before, we cannot let our elected officials run as though they were a dog given free rein. Dogs that are given free rein without will end up becomming wild, and once they have become wild, they tend to become aggressive. This is the same way that the folks in Argentina ended up electing a Communist dictator to office and losing all of their freedoms. Our country is not different from others in the sense that if we travel the same road they traveled, we will not hit the same potholes. It is almost impossible to miss them! Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, but expecting different results. What makes our country different from those that have succumb to the demise of their greatness, is we have the opportunity to change our river bed. We CAN learn from those that have gone before us! Only if we choose to though! It is our responsibility that we keep those elected in check of what it is that the people truly need. As soon as our ability to defend our families and our country is hindered, our lives as we know it cease to continue. That is the point of no return. We cannot afford to let that happen. We MUST stand together, and get the truth out there to the rest of America!
    God speed,
    Jason

    Chris,
Thank you so much for your continued intelligence speak! I have been speaking out about the 2nd Amendment for years. It is amazing (and frightening) how ignorant people are about history. Gun bans seemed like a good idea to the peoples of Europe back in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s. But, lo and behold, the Nazi’s just waltzed into town and took over because the citizens had no way to defend themselves!!! Imagine that, and how oddly familiar it sounds!
Yes, I worry about the bad guys breaking into our homes, etc….I worry more about a defenseless society and a government running rampant with power and visions of “helping” us all – when it’s actually called Oppression.

    Hey Chris,
Actually you dont need guns, if you have Jesus Christ in your heart. You may like guns, I have no problem with that.
Freedom to me means I can talk about Jesus Christ so unbelievers who are looking for the way can find meaning for their life.
The only thing I can really control is what you offer, my leadership ability.
Your Team and Monvie offer fabulous methods to facilitate spreading the word.
Actions of many people speak so loudly as they are not willing to change the way they think, act to get to where they want to be or go.
Anyone who has ever been to the state motor vehicle place to get a license or registration knows the government could never run a business. There is no leadership, customer service, or reason to get better and sadly many profit companies dont treat people very well either.
As you say in your new Team Book we have no Vision. We are already there because we have no plan to get anywhere.
PS- Keep giving us the GOOD STUFF.

    Chris,
I’m glad to follow in the footsteps of a man with a brain.
Guns are fun. And they serve a purpose. A well-armed militia referred to the PEOPLE of this country, not just the military or the police. The only prevention against total governmental control is our ability to fight against the government if necessary.
“One of the ordinary modes, by which tyrants accomplish their purposes without resistance, is, by disarming the people, and making it an offense to keep arms.” -Constitutional scholar Joseph Story
If our guns are taken, the government controls those who still legally own them, including the military. What next? Once our guns are gone, they can really enforce whatever they want. All it takes is the next Hitler, one man, to take control to the next level. I believe Thomas Jefferson said basically that “Blood is the price every generation must pay for the freedom they possess.” (Not word for word). Basically, there must be a fight, dang it. It seems as though freedom naturally tends to decrease with time. Perhaps it has something to do with our human nature being innately sinful and that people naturally tend to stray away from God with time. Power is enticing because it appeals to our pride. Therefore, someone who doesn’t have strong principles (that HELP others, not hurt) to live by will not be a good candidate for a position of power. Now, would you agree that true morals can only come from the God of the Bible? It seems to me that there can be no true morality aside from Christ. Sure, one could follow the 10 commandments but aside from a true relationship with Christ, does it really matter? It’s amazing how people can miss this idea of government. Not just with gun laws but with government in general. It seems so simple that government should be small. Perhaps that is coming from a God-based world view. I believe some are blind, some are misled, some may just be lazy and don’t want to take any responsibility so they WANT to rely on the government. Different priorities and agendas. My point here is that there is a huge war going on, you know that obviously, and really, all these problems seem to stem from our country rebelling and turning away from God, from faith in Christ. I like what Henry David Thoreau said that for every thousand hacking at the leaves of evil, there is one hacking at the roots. I believe that is what the Team is doing. HOW can this country change? What kind of action can we take? Orrin has said that to change a country, you must change the hearts and minds of the people. He posted an article which said that the best thing we can do is educate ourselves right now on history, government…and I would add, raise our level of influence and make ourselves right with our Creator. Would you add anything?
    Great article Mr. Brady,

    Chris, nicely written post.
Here are a few quotes/proverbs Ive read which sum up your arguments quite well:
“If you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns”
“It is better to have a gun & never have to use it; then to not have a gun & ever need to use it”
“Armed people are citizens, unarmed people are subjects”
Saying that, I still belive that a balance is doable. Responsible & well trained people are an asset to any country.
If the population is armed, it is hard for terrorists to cause problems too, because they know that the people will not have to wait for 20 mins before the Armed Offenders Squd / SWAT will come to save them.
Anyone from any window will open fire.
I choose to believe a well armed population would reduce the load on the armies too in case of a terroristy attack or a holy war.
At the end of the day, I feel that maybe the peopel who cause these school shooting are the real criminals who want guns banned for their own good….
God Bless us all & may we never have to retord to arms, but if we need to, we must be prepared
“God helps those who help themselves”
    Keep up the good work
    Regards

    Chris,
    As always spot on.
Why is it that all of the anti gunners seem to think that every other one of the first ten amendments deal with an “individual” right EXCEPT the second (which is some how a “collective” ie. a government right). How come the ACLU (Amerikan Communist Lawyers Union)which is there to defend our rights has NEVER defended a 2A case, but the NRA is a “fringe group”? We need to take back our language and stop all of this political correctness madness. If we let them control the language, we let them control the debate, we let them control the debate, we let them control the outcome, we let them control the out come, then we let them control us, we let them control us then we end up as slaves to their agenda and the state.
We are so grateful for the leadership that we get from you guys that lead TEAM. Keep up the good work and the good fight. We got your back.
    P.S.
Glenn Beck is a man who believes in the 9/12 principles/values and is as real as any one I have ever met that I trust with my life.
    Thanks,
