I have just read the best definition I have ever come across for the "Modern Man."  Author Alexander Boot describes him as follows:

"A sociocultural type whose intuitive two-pronged animus comes from a desire to destroy the spiritual and cultural essence of West[ern] Heritage, while at the same time magnifying the material gains that were incidental to that heritage."

This is the enemy of our freedom, clearly depicted. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his tent.

    Chris,
To quote the immortal Pogo, “We have met the enemy, and he is us!”
If we examine ourselves, we all have tendancies toward just what you described. These aren’t just cultural tendancies, though culture plays its role. These are inate things, almost instinctual, found within us at birth, and which grow in greater or lesser extents throughout our lifetimes. These inate things are what the Bible calls our sin nature, and people were denying the reality of that thousands of years before our culture came along.
However, all of that is not meant to say modern man has not worked very hard at perfecting these things. On the contrary, we have. And while there yet remain bastions of honor, dignity, decency, morality and truth in places like the Team and in churches where the Bible is not only preached but also lived out, the Western society as a general whole is going toward the dreadful end you describe. The leaders are already there, and they are bent on taking as many as they can with them.
And yet, in all this doom and gloom, there still remains hope. The Team stands for what is right and good, and seeks to change the culture. The Bible believing church has always stood for the Truth, and has always been seeking to be salt and light in the world. Let us therefore strengthen ourselves in hope, gird our loins with truth, and continue the fight for our culture and the world, one person at a time.

The battle is clear. Wipe out the gray. Let us not be clouded with clever verbiage or animosity masquerading as righteousness.

Our “spiritual and cultural essence” stem from the Moral Code authored by God and written on our hearts, by Him.
To deny that moral code, under which we all labor & understand (though some go miles out of their way to deny) is to be like a man who, while breathing, denies the existence of oxygen.
It is so fused within us, that, because of God’s “gift” of free will, we can fool ourselves into thinking we not only invented it (or that it ‘evolved’ within us), but are gods ourselves for having done so.
Such is the hubris of the created towards its Creator.

In a church four candles of Peace, Love, Faith and Hope were burning. Candle of Peace thought that it was of no use as terrorism was at its peak and there was no peace; therefore, it went out. Candle of Love thought where there was no Peace, there was no place for Love as well; so it extinguished itself. The candle of Faith thought as there was no faith, so there was no Love or Peace; therefore, she was of no use and blew itself out. A child was standing nearby when he saw these candles of Peace, Love and Faith going out one by one he began to cry as to what would become of the human race without Love, Peace and Faith. At that moment the candle of Hope spoke to him and said I am still here, take me and relight the candles of Peace, Love and Faith with me. Would you agree that, as long as we continue to evangelize our faith in almighty God to all who will listen, WE can hope to minimize the impact of Modern Man on our society, and hopefully put him on the endangered species list.

    Chris,
Thanks for the vocabulary lesson. I had to look up the word “animus” and then the definition made sense to me!
Thanks for giving us clues to help us think more!
