Communist-car Click on the link below for a very well written, easy to understand article explaining where we are economically in the United States right now. You will notice immediately that our government is not currently, nor has it been for over twenty years, ANYWHERE NEAR these principles.

http://dailyreckoning.com/the-magic-formula/

The author, Nathan Lewis, calls the combination of:

1. lower taxes

2. stable money

the "Magic Formula." For proof of his claim, all one has to do is look to history.

But then again, this combination leads to freedom and prosperity, two things people in the United States don't seem to appreciate, understand, or even desire anymore. I guess years of indoctrination against what made America great are finally paying off.

Freedom is okay as long as YOU don't get to exercise it. After all, bureaucrats in Washington know better than you how you should live, and there is no shortage of special interest groups and whacko extremists who want to pass laws limiting your behavior.

Prosperity is only "allowed" if the government says you can have it. And the answer is probably "no" unless you receive it from them directly in the form of a handout, subsidy, bailout, welfare check, tax credit, or "redistributed benefit."

The "Progressive" movement was started in the late 1800's and is still lovingly adhered to by most of today's politicians (in both "parties," by the way). What does it mean? Let's get a quote directly from one of its early leaders, good ol' Teddy Roosevelt. Here's what he said:

"We grudge no man a fortune in civil life if it is honorably obtained and well used. It is not even enough that it should have been gained without doing damage to the community. We should permit it to be gained only so long as the gaining represents benefit to the community."

Hmmm, only someone who didn't earn his money himself could talk like this. But that's not all, even though this would be enough to make Karl Marx blush. He went on to say:

"Every man holds his property subject to the general right of the community to regulate its use to whatever degree the public welfare may require it."

Aah, now we're to the "Greater Good" Communistic nonsense.

One has to wonder: did this guy ever, EVER read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?

Have any of today's Progressives?

The founders established the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to guarantee the American people protection from exactly this kind of government overreach and control. But we cannot be protected by something we have forgotten exists, or if we become complicit in its destruction. We have got to stop falling for the Progressive bracket creep of our government, which takes an inch of freedom, then pushes for a yard.

There is no "progress" in the Progressive movement, unless you are part of the governing elite growing fat on its bulging power over the people. For the most part, the Progressive movement means:

Progressively higher taxes

Progressively more laws

Progressively more government involvement in private industry (can you say banks, automobiles, healthcare?)

Progressively inflated and therefore devalued money

Progressively less freedom

Progressively less prosperity

“Aah, now we’re to the ‘Greater Good’ Communistic nonsense.”
Thank you for calling this kind of talk what it actually is.
As Reagan said: “… freedom and democracy will leave Marxism and Leninism on the ash heap of history.”
That is where this thinking belongs.
    Thanks for all you do!

    Chris,
One of the quotes you mentioned from Teddy Roosevelt struck me. He said, “Every man holds his property subject to the general right of the community to regulate its use to whatever degree the public welfare may require it.”
Hmmm . . . That goes against the grain of everything we were taught and tried valiantly to teach our children from the time they were infants: Property belongs to the one who owns it. The owner has a right to say how it is used and what gets done with it. What is mine is mine, and what is yours is yours, unless we choose to share by mutual agreement and consent.
Every child knows the concept of “Mine” from their first reach out to grab something. As parents (and now grandparents), our job has always been teaching them the concept of “Yours.” It’s not easy, and it’s always worth it.
Our government is an overgrown toddler badly in need of a lesson or two in who owns what!!

I am not going to make any friends with the following statement, but the following statement will be true in the purest sense of the form. “Freedom is an illusion.” Freedom is an illusion that is held by the citizens of the nation that they reside in. ALL governments provide the illusion of freedom to the citizens of that nation so that those citizens will be easier to control. You still think I am wrong and think you are free. REALLY. Oh yeah. This year, try not paying your taxes. Also, try speeding down the highway in front of a law enforcement officer. I bet he will arrest your freedom, albeit temporarily, before you can blink twice. No, you are not “FREE.” You are only free in the sense that you are free for as long as you choose to follow ALL of the rules and laws that society has set forth for and expects you to follow. This is a sad and unfortunate truth. Yet, it is true nonetheless. Now, anyone who reads this will probably think that I am a hateful, heathen, devil worshiping bastard; however, none of those things are true. I just choose to see things the way they really are and not deny the simple truth of the matter. Freedom truly is an illusion, and that is too bad. Mr. Brady, I would appreciate it if you would review this post and send a reply of your thoughts to my e-mail. Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter, and please do not think that I am a Nazi or a Communist because I am not. I just have a different viewpoint of this particular subject.

Xzavier: Not only do I not think you are a Nazi, I think you are right! You are basically, as you know, stating the Libertarian position. Total freedom would constitute driving anywhere, anyway, at anytime. However, TOTAL freedom is not workable because it is really just anarchy. The entire spectrum of freedom, from anarchy on one side to tyranny on the other, is a scale. I am fighting for people to understand the PRINCIPLES of freedom that allows us to live on the scale more toward freedom and less toward tyranny. However, we can’t be entirely academic and push for TOTAL freedom which is anarchy.

Mr. Brady, Thank you for taking the time to read my comment, formulate an educated response, and actually responding. I am actually on TEAM in Wichita, KS and chose not to use my real name. Not everyone shares similar beliefs with relation to my thoughts on freedom, and I did not want to attract unnecessary attention. That being said, it is plain to see that you are a much more well educated man than I am at this point. The reason I say that is because you basically answered a question when I did not even know that I was asking a question. Also, your response was absolutely right on. Thank you for completing my thought for me and doing it in a respectful manner. I will be attending the super open that Orrin Woodward and Tim Marks will be doing in Wichita KS in about a week. Thanks and have a great week.

    Thanks for the insight Chris!
I think it’s funny when centralized government collectivists try to convince us that “those” people can’t be trusted with the right to own their own property and instead, the property should be regulated and controlled by “the community”, “the state”, “the people”, etc. This is all a farce that really just means all of your property should be controlled by an elite few that are perfectly sinless and much smarter than any individual.
