Is there no one to read

These words that I write

Though I wrench each from thought, and

Arrange with all my might?

*

Is there no one to hear

This song that I sing

Though I tug at each note, and

Harmonize voice with string?

*

Is there no one to see

This canvas I paint

Though I mix the colors, and

Compromise hue and taint?

*

Is there no one to watch

This movie I make

Though I direct each scene, tell

The story take by take?

*

Is there no one to tour

This building I raise

Though I construct each space, and

Blend height and light and praise?

*

It is ours to create

From vapor to real

The art that's within us, is

Our gift from God revealed.

*

Nobody works in vain

Who dares leave the horde

There's always One who sees it

When we work for the Lord.

*

Just got off your blog when I got this message. I almost commented on the last post but decided not to. Can we also hide behind Piety? Your poem is so true. The Lord is looking at the heart, and He knows our motivations. Sometimes I think it’s easy to miss our destiny because we are too busy being pious. Whadya think?
    Great little poem!

Chris, I am one of three (Lydia, Dean & I). ha ha ha
Just returned from a Seminar in Syracuse . . . where I got Inspired and now can’t sleep. Reading thoughts like these are WAAAAAAY better than that Ole Boob Tube !!
Know that your words, songs, colors, movies, and buildings are ALL worth much more than every minute I spend pondering their value, beauty and wit. Thank you !!

    Chris:
Awesome poem. God always watches. He is always there when we think no one is.

    Hey Chris!
This poem reminds me of something profound (provoking a true paradigm shift for me!)
I read recently in Power & Confidence about innate worth~
“It’s not how good you are,how much $ you make, how many things you do, but having faith that God has blessed you with “innate worth.”
Innate worth is the key to fill the void in our self esteem~
(i.e Why am I inadequate in this way or that?)
To me, Innate Worth means: Selflessly sharing your gifts and talents with others, serving with a pure heart for the greater good, expressing gratitude when ever possible, being so thankful for all the miracles and blessings in life!
Thank you so much Chris for your un-ending humor & nuggets of wisdom! You are inspiring to us all! ๐Ÿ˜€

Chris, I enjoy so much the completeness you bring in all your work. Your education (self), and passion, your love for the Father and joy for the Son, your own fatherhood, your humor, your intellect. ALL OF IT. You are a complete joy to us, and I am so grateful that you share as much as you do. You inspire me to add to the beauty, too. (By the way, that’s a great song by Sara Groves: Add To the Beauty.)

I love this poem, and the very real message that applies to everyone in some way. Here are a few thoughts penned into a short poem.
    Vision
    How great the cost
    a vision lost,
    though clear today.
    No pen in hand,
    a revelation
    gone astray.
    Forever nowhere to be found.

Thanks for the encouraging reminder, Chris. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3:23โ€“24). The beauty in this is that in working, creating, living for the pleasure and glory of the Lord ultimately draws others to Him. It is the practical application of being salt and light. Godspeed, brother!
