A sure way to stop a red-hot argument is to lay a few cold, hard facts on it.

"Get your facts first; then you can distort 'em as you please." — Mark TwainThe hardest thing about facts is facing them.Digging for facts is a better mental exercise than jumping to conclusions."Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions." — Proverbs 18:2

One of my favorite exercises on this blog is when you, my 3 loyal readers, participate in a collaboration. For this one I'd like to have you assist me in putting together a socialistic jargon de-coder. Let me give you a few examples below to get you started (with thanks to author Alexander Boot for the first three):1. "Protecting the less fortunate" is code for (or really means) "expropriating the more fortunate."2. "Investing in health care and education" is code for "expanding . . . bureaucracies and increasing taxes."3. "Investing in industry" is code for "crypto-nationalization."4. "Equality for all" is code for "taking from those who work and giving to those who won't"5. "Universal health care" is code for "governmental control and inefficiency in health services"6. "Ear marking" is code for "giving handouts to our political supporters"7. "Expanding the franchise" is code for "including the deadbeats."8. "Compassionate programs" is code for a "burgeoning welfare state."9. "Stimulation package" is code for "tax payer money taken from the middle-class and given to the finance industry"10. "Democracy" is code for "Mob rule and the death of the individual."11. "Choice" is code for "abortion."12. "Evolution" is code for a "substitute religion which allows the disavowal of God."13. "Spirituality" is code for "religion without morality or absolutes."Oh, this is so much fun! All one has to do is listen to the news for a few minutes to get hundreds of these. I can't wait to read yours! -
The following is a brief introduction to the book, The Creature from Jekyll Island, by G. Edward Griffin, which describes the birth of the Federal Reserve under shrouded circumstances. It is a classic story of a big-money cartel forming with the veil of "legitimacy" of the United States government. If you've ever wondered, economically speaking, "How'd we get here?" this video may take you on the road to the answer.

One has to be careful when aligning with a label. The following is something I scribbled into the back of a history book I was reading at a moment of inspiration. I post it for you here in order to solicit your input on the question asked at the end. I look forward to reading your responses."I am not a Democrat because they stand for too many causes against God and His laws,I am not a Republican (although I was once registered as one) because they are controlled by big monied interests which foster cartels and stifle opportunity,I am not a Libertarian because the concept of Liberty burns too quickly out of control if taken as a quality by itself. So . . . I guess I don't know what I am.It would be poetic and seemingly patriotic to state that I am simply an American, implying somehow that the term itself is enough to produce clarity. But no one seems to know anymore what it means."So, dear readers, what does it mean to be an "American?" -
Leadership, like genius, often involves making something complex seem simple. Leaders must learn to simplify the world and situations around them in a fashion that produces more effective results. Specifically, too many times leaders fall into the trap of hacking away at leaves while ignoring the roots. A quote by college football coach Lou Holtz speaks directly to this: "Decisions are easy to make if you know what your priorities are." I have always liked that quote. The clearer we are on the roots of a situation, the harder it will be for us to get distracted by the leaves. The stronger our priorities, the better we can navigate the obstacles in our path. How is this done? By understanding first principles, by knowing the "big rocks" we want put into the jar before concerning ourselves with the smaller rocks, by knowing "what's important next."So clean up your thinking. Focus on priorities and first principles. Find points of agreement with others on the big picture of things first, before dividing yourselves up on technicalities. Have a clear objective and resist the urge to get distracted by smaller things. Work at the root level of things, and you'll often find that the leaves take care of themselves. -
Most have heard the phrase "Barbarians at the gates," a reference to Aleric and his Germanic tribes camping outside the gates of Rome in the fifth century AD. It was a cataclysmic moment representing the fall of Roman civilization. Of course, things are rarely as simple as cute phrases make them seem, and the fall of Rome was much more complicated than the final capitulation to the Huns would represent. Still, the phrase has lasted throughout the years, probably because of the clarity of the image of a hord of unwashed, "uncivilized," violent, blood-thirsty conquerors swarming in anticipation of rape and pillage. One can only imagine the horror of being helpless against the oncoming assault against one's property, family, wives, and daughters.Today, we are still faced with figurative barbarians. However, they most certainly are not at the gates. Instead, they are at the helm. The barbarians are at the helm of our national media outlets; creating subversivion through propaganda represented as fact and spoon feeding it to the masses. The barbarians are at the helm of our educational system; indoctrinating children and college students in the religion of statism and big government, socialism, revisionism, class division, envy, victimhood, and division masquerading as tolerance. The barbarians are at the helm of our entertainment systems; subtly programming us that things which were repulsive and reprehensible to previous generations are now normal and completely acceptable. The barbarians are at the helm of our federal court system; legislating activism from the bench instead of upholding the strict interpretation of the Constitution. The barbarians are at the helm of politics; controlling our government through special interest monopoly strangleholds on the legislative process. The barbarians are at the helm of our banking and monetary system; fleecing the public with silent theft through un-tethered fiat money inflation.*No, the barbarians are not at the gates, they are at the controls. In their envy, victim-minded self-righteous smugness, they sneer as they turn the ship of state toward an ice berg. They don't believe it could ever be destroyed because they think it is an unsinkable ship, especially with them in control. Their self-assuredness is only matched by their lack of nautical experience. However, like a cancer that kills the host organism by its own expansion, they are blind to the truth. This severe type of blindness is only possible through eyes that burn with hatred for the truth itself. In fact, in their world, there is no truth. Everyone gets to create his own. Everything is relative. So finally, it just comes down to power. "We're in control now, and you're not. Too bad for you. Now it's our turn to get what's coming to us. We don't believe in earning it. Why would we earn it when we have discovered how to simply take it instead?" So they trample the founding documents, they trample the carefully constructed Rule of Law that was responsible for generating the prosperity they pillage, they slay the performer, they deny his God, they profane the sacred, and they kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.It is the disappearance of a civlization and way of life, and it has been surrendered almost entirely without a fight. The Romans would recognize a little of themselves in us. We too opened the gates and let the invaders in.*(Generalizations are dangerous, of course, and not everyone involved in the above categories purports destructive ideologies or anti-Western dogmas. However, those who don't are in the extreme minority, and should be cheered for fighting the good fight in the face of a pack of angry wolves.) -
I have just read the best definition I have ever come across for the "Modern Man." Author Alexander Boot describes him as follows:
"A sociocultural type whose intuitive two-pronged animus comes from a desire to destroy the spiritual and cultural essence of West[ern] Heritage, while at the same time magnifying the material gains that were incidental to that heritage."This is the enemy of our freedom, clearly depicted. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his tent. -
