"Hurray for our side!" they yell with screeched voices.  "Think like us or be wrong," they imply with barely veiled anger.  Signs are stuck in front yards, bumper stickers adorn cars, and "neutral" commentators and newspapers are making their "neutral" statements that seem to support one side way more than the other.

What is the cause of all this?  Ah, yes, my friend, it's election time again in the good ol' US of A.

So what is a normal, emotionally stable, average everyday person supposed to do in the middle of this firestorm?  As far as I can tell there are several options.

1. go on a television talk show and use your best interrupting skills.  Smirk and shake your head, and just as your host is about to make a point, raise your voice and act all offended.

2. figure out how to cheat.  Get involved in a campaign to register dead, drunk, or mentally disabled voters and volunteer to drive herds of 'em down to the voting booths come Tuesday.

3.  pepper the polls with false results so your side can proclaim an early victory and dishearten the other side from even showing up

4.  help raise money from famous people so your side can make annoying infomercials that last forever and show all the time

5.  find special interest groups to make promises to and thereby broker for blocks of votes.

6. fan the flames of hate, envy, or greed, being sure to divide people into "groups" and make them feel like victims.  This can be done in many different categories, such as race, sexual orientation, class, income level, decendancy, gender, and many other fine distinctions that can be found to divide people.

7.  do your best to make the election about a choice between personalities, being sure to steer the discussions far away from those dangerous things like "the actual issues" and "realistic plans and strategies."

8. get involved in name calling and character assassination.  This again is much safer and easier than having an actual intelligent position on any issues.

9.  Use broad words such as "hope" and "change" and "vision"

10. make sure that people do not vote their Bibles or their beliefs.  Keep them embroiled in partisan politics, voting the way "they are supposed to."

And while these may be the actual activities of some, thank GOD that most of you out there will simply do the most massive thing on Tuesday, and that is . . .

VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best one comes from the Ice Witch character in C.S. Lewis’ book “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” – gain their cooperation with num nums. No one will care about my radical plan for destroying America (whoops, I mean Narnia); if I promise num nums to the less fortunate children and middle class. I could be anyone with any agenda as long as I keep num nums on their mind. We have to ask ourselves… is my vote for sale for mere num nums?

I’ve heard some of these adds and often wonder how people can be “suckered” into believing such blatent “salesmenship” tactics that some of the candidates are using. I remember your talk about ambitious or hungry…. Thanks for keeping an eye on what is real!

I’ve recently been seeing ads for a candidate running for office here in northeast PA or should I say against his opponant, whom I shall call PK. I don’t know about the accuracy of the ads, but I suppose that the allegations are verifiable. According to the ad PK has used his office to funnel millions of dollars to members of his family. At the end of the ad the announcer asks what PK has given to you lately. After watching the ad I asked my wife, Mrs. DaveC, if we could change our last name to K so that PK could give us some of the millions that he is giving away. She said, “Definitely not!” I was only joking, of course, but it does bring to mind the story that I heard Pastor Dickie tell once of the man who propsitioned a woman to compromise her fidelity for a million dollars and upon her accepting his offer and confirming what kind of woman that she was he proceded to negotiate for a lower price. The application is that if your good name and your integrity is not for sale it is not for sale at any price. If you begin to compromise for any price you are compromised and the only question is, “What is your Price?”

During this political season let’s be reminded of these wise words from a great American.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

Great Post Chris. Definitely VOTE!Being a Vet the war is a hot button topic for me. Why is the concept of “Freedom has a price & that price is worth paying” such a difficult thing to understand & at least respect? I’m grateful to those that do understand it & have payed that price. The Vet in the link says it all. This Thanksgiving, as we go around the table expressing what each of us is thankful/grateful for my answer will be, always has been & will be forever “I’m Proud to be an American!”

This is a little off topic, but then again maybe not. I got this in an email and really thought it was cool:
‘Let me explain the problem science has with religion.’ The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand.
    ‘You’re a Christian, aren’t you, son?’
    ‘Yes sir,’ the student says.
    ‘So you believe in God?’
    ‘Absolutely.
    ‘Is God good?’
    ‘Sure! God’s good.’
‘Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?’
    ‘Yes’
    ‘Are you good or evil?’
    ‘The Bible says I’m evil.’
The professor grins knowingly. ‘Aha! The Bible!’ He considers for a moment. ‘Here’s one for you. Let’s say there’s a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?’
    ‘Yes sir, I would.’
    ‘So you’re good…!’
    ‘I wouldn’t say that.’
‘But why not say that? You’d help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn’t.’
The student does not answer, so the professor continues. ‘He doesn’t, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?’
    The student remains silent.
‘No, you can’t, can you?’ the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.
‘Let’s start again, young fella. Is God good?’
    ‘Er..yes,’ the student says.
    “is Satan good?’
The student doesn’t hesitate on this one. ‘No.’
‘Then where does Satan come from?’
    The student falters. ‘From God’
‘That’s right. God made Satan, didn’t he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?’
    ‘Yes, sir.’
‘Evil’s everywhere, isn’t it? And God did make everything correct??
    ‘Yes’
‘So who created evil?’ The professor continued, ‘If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil.’
Again, the student has no answer. ‘Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?’
The student squirms on his feet. ‘Yes.’
    ‘So who created them?’
The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question. ‘Who created them?’ There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized. ‘Tell me,’ he continues onto another student.
‘Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?
The student’s voice betrays him and cracks. ‘Yes, professor, I do.’
The old man stops pacing. ‘Science says you have five senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?’
‘No sir. I’ve never seen Him.’
‘Then tell us if you’ve ever heard your Jesus?’
    ‘No, sir, I have not.’
‘Have you ever felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelled your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter?’
    ‘No, sir, I’m afraid I haven’t.’
‘Yet you still believe in him?’
    ‘Yes’
‘According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?’
‘Nothing,’ the student replies. ‘I only have my faith.’
‘Yes, faith,’ the professor repeats. ‘And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith.’
The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of His own. ‘Professor, is there such thing as heat?’
    ‘ Yes.’
‘And is there such a thing as cold?’
    ‘Yes, son, there’s cold too.’
    ‘No sir, there isn’t.’
The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested.
The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain.
‘You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don’t have anything called ‘cold’. We can hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458 degrees.’
‘Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.’
Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.
‘What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?’
‘Yes,’ the professor replies without hesitation. ‘What is night if it isn’t darkness?’
‘You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it’s called darkness, isn’t it? That’s the meaning we use to define the word.’
‘In reality, darkness isn’t. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?’
The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester. ‘So what point are you making, young man?
‘Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed.’
The professor’s face cannot hide his surprise this time. ‘Flawed? Can you explain how?’
‘You are working on the premise of duality,’ the student explains.. ‘You argue that there is life and then there’s death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can’t even explain a thought.’
‘It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it. ‘Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?’
‘If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do.’
‘Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?’
The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going. A very good semester, indeed.
‘Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?’
The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided.
‘To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student, let me give you an example of what I mean.’
The student looks around the room. ‘Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor’s brain?’ The class breaks out into laughter.
‘Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor’s brain, felt the professor’s brain, touched or smelled the professor’s brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir.’
‘So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?’
Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable.
Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. ‘I guess you’ll have to take them on faith.’
‘Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with life,’ the student continues. ‘Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?’
Now uncertain, the professor responds, ‘Of course, there is. We see it everyday It is in the daily example of man’s inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.’
To this the student replied, ‘Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God’s love present in his heart. It’s like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.’
    The professor sat down.
The student was Albert Einstein. Albert Einstein did write a book titled God vs. Science in 1921…

Obviously the current administration thought that by going to war they could help the economy, but has it helped?
I would say the current administration has no concept of the kill or be killed political/muslum belief system that exists in the arab/indian countries we are in.
They will never be anything like the USA- NEVER.
Obviously, George W. Bush doesn’t believe in “teach a man to fish” and would rather give him the fish daily. We are promoting socialism in IRAQ.
Read criticism’s of FDR on Google.
Some believe that government intervention into the economy prolonged the depression and didn’t allow the free market to bounce back as quick as it would have. FDR was manipulating the press and no one knew how sick he was going into his third term. FDR’s “give” to the poor mentality garanteed 80-90% of the poor voted.
FDR was an adulterer, had a confirmed mistress. He started Social Security as did a democrat congress.
I agree with Chris Brady. People need to read history and see how it’s been repeating itself in just the last 50 to 75 years.
People dont excel in America because they are being “paid” to do nothing. why would anyone do more when they are paid to do less.
If you can do less and get “free” health care, what would be the reason to do more.
When your getting the maximun of free stuff from a system and you put a minimal amount in, you also would be crowing about how great it is.

Hot off the presses from the CVN news desk. There is massive voter fraud conducted by the Republican party. Every voting booth in America has been tampered with by the Republicans to change your vote to John McCain. It doesn’t matter who you vote for, it will always go to John McCain. The Congress of the United States has come up with a solution and is currently attempting to spread the word as quickly as possible before the election to fix this egregious problem. Since every voting booth is already giving every vote to John McCain, all people who want to vote McCain should vote as normal on Tuesday. It doesn’t matter who’s name you put on the ballot, it’s going to McCain. For all those who want their vote to go Obama should show up wednesday. All votes on wednesday will also go to McCain, but because of the timestamp will say wednesday, Congress will know that it is actually a vote for Obama.
So, in short, all McCain voters are to vote on tuesday and all Obama voters are to vote on wednesday. Pass the word to all Obama voters immediately! Don’t let McCain steal this election! Vote Obama on wednesday! Bring hope to the White House! Vote wednesday!
P.S. For those who are not familiar with a little known document called the U.S. Constitution, or with something called humor, this whole thing was a joke. Yes, this election is a joke too, but if you try to vote on wednesday, you will both make me happy and find out that there is no voting on wednesday. But please do it anyways!!!

As to the Einstein story: http://www.snopes.com/religion/einstein.asp
He acknowledged that he believed in Spinoza’s god, which is essentially that the universe itself is god. When told that others claimed that he believed in the Judeo/Christian god, he responded “It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal god and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.”
Anyways, come Tuesday GET UP AND GO (stand in line, wait and wait some more, then) VOTE!!!

OMG! Dean’s post was hilarious! I needed that kind of laughter this morning…
All kidding aside about the election:
Obama has been the media darling since day one and I feel as if the Republicans and other Democrat candidates never got a fair shot. Why? Because he gives a good speech? I can not vote for him because I only hear one word from his mouth every time: Change. Yes, America needs change but not a change towards Socialism – which is where this nation has been leading towards.
I agree with Dave’s posting as well. We (the nation) have been giving out too many handouts and people are taking advantage of the government – and the taxpayers – to do nothing and not seek out opportunity. Instead of looking for a new avenue, people are begging the government for handouts.
My mentality since I’ve been in high school is that Social Security and some other government plans will not be effective if they still exist when I get to my parents’ age. Heck, it isn’t all that effective now for them. I have all along been trying to find a way to have a retirement 30-40 years down the road where I won’t have to struggle on what I now know will be 1/3 to 1/2 of what I made when I was working. (With TEAM, I now have an avenue which is currently being constructed.)
In my opinion, people are lazy and look for the easy way out. Their ignorance of History and Politics has hurt this nation just as much as politicians who vote with their checkbooks. I just finished “Leadership: Tidbits & Treasures” by Chris & Orrin and an essay towards the end scared me as it pointed out that the USA has moved towards socialism. A promised universal healthcare system will be yet another block in the socialist wall and people will blindly accept that. Accept it until it is too late.
My mother, a choleric or high “D” personality, says it would benefit me if there was universal healthcare. She went on and on and I just listened because I can’t argue with that woman (plus, she’s my mom). I brought up that I have never been in favor of socialism and she started to argue and wonder where I came up with that idea. Information, I answered. Information. Something people ignore because they are too busy listening to the know-it-alls on the television. I have had a brief encounter with Marx in my studies but never took a deeper look into our own politics until now. With everything going on in America and the promises of the two men who want to run our nation for the next four years, I am not in favor of the direction this nation is going.
I can not vote for either, but I will still vote: third party if there is one candidate that seemingly has a better outlook. I can not ethically vote for a candidate of whom I do not agree with their stance. It is like ’04 all over again for me.
It doesn’t matter who you vote for, just remember, get out there and do your civic duty! People have fought and died for hundreds of years so that you can get out there and make a choice and have your voice heard. If you vote for the losing side, so be it. Your voice and all of their backer’s voices will be heard. Don’t let one candidate get out there and win 60% or higher of the popular vote because you felt you were voting in a losing cause. Don’t give the government a chance to mandate their stance. Show them there is a side who can cause noise if they go too far. I think it’s time for a third party who can work with both sides of the aisle and I feel it is time for us to find people who will serve rather than fill their pocketbooks.
    But above all, VOTE!
(Or don’t and let down all of those people who died and sacrificed so that you had the opportunity to.)

    Chris;
Here is a bit of history.
If there is anyone out there that doesn’t know this, this is the best visual presentation I ever saw… Now don’t be mad at old people, just remember who did this when you vote….
    Franklin Delano. Roosevelt
    32nd. President, Democrat
Terms of Office March 4, 1933, to April 12, 1945
    GOOD TO HEAR !
    Our Social Security
Franklin Delano. Roosevelt (Terms of Office March 4, 1933, to April 12, 1945), a Democrat, introducedthe Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
    1. That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary,
    2. That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,
    3. That the money the participants elected to put Into the Program would be deductible from Their income for tax purposes each year,
    4. That the money the participants put into the Independent ‘Trust Fund’ rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would Only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and
5.That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to ‘Put Away’ — you may be interested in the following:
    ———-THEN—————————————————
    Dwight David Eisenhower
    34th. President, Republican,
Term Of Office: January 20, 1953 to January 20, 1961
    Insert by Vincent Peter Render,
If I recall correctly, 1958 is the first year that Congress voted to remove funds from Social Security and put it into the General Fund for Congress to spend.
If I recall correctly, it was a democratically Controlled Congress.
From what I understand, Congress logic at that time was that there was so much money in Social Security Fund that it would never run out / be used up for the purpose it was intended / set aside for.
    ————-WORSE STILL————————————————
    Lyndon Baines Johnson36th. President, Democrat
    Term Of Office:November 22, 1963 to January 20, 1969
Question: Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent ‘Trust Fund’ and put it into theGeneral Fund so that Congress could spend it?

Answer: It was Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat, Term Of Office: November 22, 1963 to January 20, 1969) and thedemocratically Controlled House and Senate.

Question: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax Deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

    Answer: The Democratic Party.

    William Jefferson Clinton
    (Bill Clinton)
    42nd. President
Democrat Term of Office: January 20, 1993 to January 20, 2001
    Albert Arnold Gore, Jr.
    (Al Gore)
    45th. Vice President
    Democrat Term of Office:January 20, 1993 to January 20, 2001
Question: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
Answer: The Democratic Party, with Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. (Al Gore) [Vice President Term of Office: January 20, 1993to January 20, 2001] casting the ‘tie-breaking’ deciding vote asPresident of the Senate, while he was Vice President of theUS .
-THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL’S BACK !!-
    James Earl Carter, Jr(Jimmy Carter)
    39th. President, Democrat
Term of Office: January 20, 1977 to January 20, 1981
Question: Which Political Party decided to start giving Annuity payments to immigrants?
    AND MY FAVORITE:
Answer: That’s right! James Earl Carter, Jr. (Jimmy Carter) (Democrat, Term of Office: January 20, 1977 to January 20, 1981) and the Democratic Party.

Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! TheDemocratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of Awareness will be planted andmaybe changes will Evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully Sure of what isn’t so.
But it’s worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?

Outspend the opponent by over $200 million. Have almost every city newspaper, Hollywood producer and university professor lie for you. AND STILL BARELY EKE OUT A 50/50 split in the polls. Amazing how hard it is to sell Americans a Socialist/Liberal agenda. Righteousness rules this country by a good 75/25 margin given the quantity of lies it takes to manufacture a 50/50 split.

I just listened to a CD that said that man is, by nature, lazy.
In the election there will be 3 kinds of lazy people (at least)
1.) Lazy people will vote for Obama because they want something for nothing (other people’s money)
2.) Lazy people will vote for McCain because they want to make more than 250k a year, and would prefer not have to work harder to make up for extra taxes.
3.) Even lazier people will simply assume the election is a done deal, sleep in, and not vote.
The question is, what kind of lazy are you?

Thank you Phyllis, for your words!!
I have another reminder or few:
    1. After every Hezekiah, there comes a Manassah. After every Manassah, there comes a Josiah. Sometimes, God’s people just have to wait out the Manassah’s in our lives. (Read 2 Chronicles 32 to 36 to see what I am talking about.)
    2. As Phyllis so elloquently stated, the King of kings and Lord of lords is still on His throne and in control. God hasn’t forgotten us, and never will.
    3. We are told in the Epistles by Paul to “pray for our leaders and officials.” We are told to do this so we will be blessed and live peaceful lives. So let’s do it. Let’s pray for them to have Godly wisdom to govern rightly. Whether or not we like the outcome. Whether or not the candidates we voted for got elected. As you are so fond of saying, Chris, “Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter!”
    4. Keep also praying for what this nation needs even more than a new president — revival!! We know the nation is turning away from God, and it is only through His mercy in sending revival (instead of the judgement we so justly deserve!) that it will turn back to Him once more.

I think these words from Republican United States Senator from South Carolina pretty much sums what has happend up for me. To many RINO’s in our party!!! What do you think!
“Republicans suffered very serious setbacks in the last two years in both the Senate and the House. We have got to clean up, reform and rebuild the Republican Party before we can ask Americans to trust us again. This must begin with either a change of command at the highest levels or our current leaders must embrace a bold new direction.”
“Americans have again rejected the Democrat-lite strategy of higher spending and bigger government, and it’s time for Republicans to chart a new, more principled course. Federal spending must be reduced and that starts with ending wasteful earmarks. Republicans must admit the Wall Street bailouts were a trillion-dollar bust, and immediately fight for free-market solutions that create jobs and increase freedom. We must get serious about reforming our complicated tax code that is destroying jobs, and finally reform Social Security and Medicare before they take us over a fiscal cliff. We must fight to secure our borders and keep our military strong, and we must boldly defend our values for life and the family.’
“This election reflects a failure of Republicans to keep their conservative promises. Democrats didn’t run on their true liberal agenda to raise taxes, cut national defense, and undermine traditional values. They ran against President Bush and congressional Republicans whose image was tarnished by scandals and broken promises. Our party must start today to admit our mistakes, fight for our convictions, and encourage new conservatives to run for office.”
